Wearing/Shopping
I haven’t really had “outfits” this week, only clothes for working and moving, so basically my James Perse “workwear” pants (LOL) and Elizabeth Suzann clyde pants. Pockets were key, so I always had my phone available, and places to stick random things I found.
Speaking of Elizabeth Suzann, I received my Rebekah kimono yesterday, and included with it was a gift from Elizabeth Suzann; the Patti shell in sage. I paid for the Rebekah kimono and the Patti shell was a gift from ES to review (they’re also sending me the Florence pants in silk crepe!) After I bought the kimono, ES reached out to me again to see if I’d be interested in reviewing a new knit piece and since I’d already bought the kimono, they sent the Patti shell. And it is MARVELOUS. I sort of wish I’d had it all summer. Both pieces are pretty amazing, as usual with ES, and I’ll have full reviews next week, when I’m able to actually wear clothes again. FYI, the kimono is a heavier knit than I was expecting, which is great – I’ll be able to layer it nicely over turtlenecks or even other lightweight knits for fall/winter.
Who else got their Elizabeth Suzann knits order? What do you think?
I also received my Shopbop order on Monday. I love the Rachel Comey pants, and the James Perse spiral skirt, but everything else is going back. The agolde jeans were TIGHT (size 29) and just ‘meh.’ If I didn’t already have high-waisted jeans I love, and didn’t get these Rachel Comey jeans, I might have kept them, but they weren’t interesting enough for me I guess. They are very basic high-waisted “mom” jeans. Good if you’re looking for that, but I like a little interest.
These Rachel Comey pants though. They fit nicely, and might be a little big all around, but I’m afraid they’d be too tight on my legs in a smaller size. And they have buttons at the waistband so it can be ADJUSTABLE by a couple of inches, so when they stretch out with wear, I can just cinch them in a bit, and no more waist gap. Guys, this is brilliant, and reminds me of some jeans I used to wear when I was little LOL; I don’t know why everyone doesn’t do this.
Did anyone else get anything good from the Shopbop sale?
Reading/Watching
Not reading or watching much lately…too busy arranging things. I’d love some good fiction book recommendations though, I’ve been reading a lot of non-fiction lately and need something a little lighter ATM.
Doing
Arranging. Everything is generally unpacked now, I did the kitchen the first day we were in, and the rest over the next couple of days. I hate living in chaos and disarray, so I try to get boxes unpacked and broken down ASAP. My body is so sore I can feel EVERYTHING. And I can’t take an epsom salts bath yet because I’m not quite comfortable with the cleanliness of the bathtub. It has jets and those make me nervous in terms of keeping them clean. Does anyone have experience with that?
I’m getting used to a new Pure Barre schedule, and a new studio altogether. I love the new studio, although the 10:00 AM class time is taking some getting used to!
We moved from a big townhome to a HUGE house (we’re still renting – not sure where we want to buy yet, and we still own the condo in Atlanta). I mean. HUGE. I’m not aiming to fill every single corner with something, but we do need furniture, and rugs…so many rugs…so will be adding things over time. Dagny LOVES her backyard, and I’m looking forward to getting my bird feeders up and working on a raised garden when the season starts, AND composting. I am so excited to start composting – I throw away way too much food waste.
My office is coming along, but there’s not enough room in it for the sleeper sofa that used to be in it, so I had to make Dagny a bed on the floor. Eventually I’ll get a chair for that corner (IN MY DREAMS it would be this one – I’m obsessed with Charley Harper’s artwork). And I’m not sure where I’ll be able to do outfit pictures yet. We do have a HUGE bonus room at the top of the stairs that I will be using to keep my backdrop and mannequin up for shooting product pictures for Slowre, which will be a HUGE time-saver (I used to have to get all the stand and background paper out of the closet every time…), so I’m really excited about that.
Overall, I’m so happy with the new place and am looking forward to settling in, and NOT MOVING AGAIN for a long, long time 🙂
How was your week? What do you have planned for the weekend?
Congratulations on the move! The view from your office is beautiful!
I received the Rebekka kimono and Elise dress. They are both a heavier weight than I expected. I decided not to keep the kimono since I already have a wool ES kimono and I didn’t need both. Had it been a lighter weight… 🙂 I am keeping the dress. It’s a little long on me so I hope it doesn’t stretch. But it’s gorgeous!
This week was hard because of world and life events. Hoping to rest the weekend and start anew next week.
Unpacked in a week – I am so impressed! Good luck getting the tub figured out – we have a hot tub but totally avoid jetted bath tubs. I’m sure there is a hack for cleaning online – running vinegar or bleach through the jets?
I got my Umbrella Collective Day Bag on Wed and plan to switch bags to start using it this weekend. I LOVE. I wish the short handles were 2 inches longer so I could use as shoulder handles (I never use my hands to carry a bag) but the strap is easily adjustable to be crossbody or shoulder – for now I’ll keep it shoulder as that’s easiest for my daily use (I only do crossbody when I travel & am out walking a lot). The leather is SO SOFT and the chocolate isn’t as dark as I feared. The hardware is minimal (and, alas for me, brass – beautiful, and definitely goes nicely with the brown color – I’m just a silver/nickel tone person) I totally recommend this brand!
Fiction – I’m not sure our tastes are at all similar – I read historical (currently finishing up Laura Andersen’s alt-Tudor history series) romance (historical and paranormal) and mysteries or forensics….Did pick up a couple Jill Mansell books from my elibrary that were quick fun & heartwarming reads. I have a 20+ page 8pt font reading list tracking series & authors I like (I’ve had it a long time and it feels too overwhelming to upgrade to something like GoodReads – I’ll stay lower tech and old school for now) Hope you find something light!
happy for you about the silk florence pants! it looks like they have some really great stuff in the works – i’m scared for my wallet!
we also have a tub with jets, and sorry to say it is kinda the worst. we thought it was great when we bought our house, but i quickly realized how gross they are. in order to properly clean them, you really need to fill up the tub and run them, which is incredibly wasteful (our tub is super deep!). and when you see what comes out… you might not be pleased. so instead, i just use the shower, and i clean in and around the jets with an old toothbrush from time to time.
I’m moving this weekend, so I feel you! Although, my move is totally opposite: from a smallish house shared with a partner, to a TINY studio on my own. But I still have plenty of stuff to buy for it anyway. Although the actual moving is kind of a pain, I love setting up a new home (this is my 6th place in 5 years). Glad you’re finally settling in! And I love the new hairstyle!
Love the shorter, darker hair! You look great. Congrats on the move. I’m just like you– always want everything put away quickly. I’ve also learned that it’s nice to take my time and figure things out so I’m glad you’re not rushing to buy everything right away. In terms of reading, have you read Americanah? It was terrific. I also really liked Eleanor Oliphant is Fine. In terms of fun, I love the Inspector Gamache mystery series by Louise Penny. She has a new one that I’m looking forward to reading. The Year of Living Danishly is non-fiction but very enjoyable about why the Danish are the happiest people. Have a great weekend.
thank you!!
i did read (and loved) americanah. i think eleanor oliphant is fine is on my wishlist, if not I’ll add it, i remember reading something about it and thinking it sounded interesting! i read one louise penny book, the first inspector gamache mystery i think? but i don’t remember if i loved it or not. actually i’m not sure i finished it? i’ve been reading way too many things at the same times lately!!
thanks for the suggestions.
thank you stacy 🙂
i thought you were getting married?? i’m sorry, if things didn’t work out 🙁
i did that – went from living in a pretty small place with my ex-husband to a studio on my own, and i had to buy all new things, interestingly enough. you sort of have to plan furniture/storage in a studio VERY WELL. i loved living in such a small space though, while i did. good luck to you!
yeah, i figured as much about the tub. i looked today and EW. i will probably try cleaning them, and seeing what happens, but the idea of getting into a (dirty) jetted tub naked freaks me out. might just have to take a bath upstairs 🙁 at least that’s an option though! i love baths in the winter time.
i can’t even think about next ES launch LOL – anyway, i’d rather spend my “extra” money on home stuff now!
oh, i’m so glad you like your bag!!! that’s wonderful 🙂
i love historical fiction (i did read all of outlander…)
i’ll check out the laura andersen books, thanks!
what is the dress like? is it more of a mid-weight? i’m surprised that the weight of the kimono was so different than what i was expecting! i’m glad, i think – i haven’t been able to really wear it yet since it’s still soo hot, but i like the structure of the mid-weight. i’m glad it’s not as light as the patti crop; that would have been way too light..
Oh so I got curious about this whole jetted tub thing: https://www.bobvila.com/articles/how-to-clean-a-jetted-tub/#.WdgJCtOGOu4
We have a hot tub which is different because we can use chemicals (and pickle ourselves) which is different than a bathtub. You know what bothers me now: seeing these tubs at resorts and nice hotels? Have they been cleaned lately…..arrgh……
I love your new do and color! It’s so shiny and healthy looking …the thing I don’t like about being more blond…it takes more effort to keep it in good condition.
And congrats on surviving the move AND being up at sunrise?!? YIKES! I’d be sleeping in, for sure. Your new home sounds great! I’m like you, too: I have to get unpacked and get things in their proper places or I don’t feel settled. It’s exhausting, but worth it.
I’m reading Being Mortal and while it’s good, it’s not light! (And obviously non-fiction) When I need something light, I turn to David Sedaris. He ALWAYS makes me laugh out loud!
Our hot tub died 2 months ago, but it was 26 years old, so I guess it had a good run. We do weekly “dinner in the hot tub” nights so had to replace quickly 😉 Ended up with the same brand, a tiny bit bigger, can keep the same filtration we’ve been used to. And yeah, knowing what we do to keep it clean – I know that hotels aren’t doing the same thing. I just have to not think about a lot of things when I travel 😉
Eww…yes to that! Like bedspreads, carpeting….:-(
Congrats on the move, Grechen! I am feeling sort of restless where we are and daydream about moving, but prices are so high and I don’t know WHERE to move, LOL. I love your hair, too. I just read this great profile of Frances McDormand and think you would like it, too. And the writer mentions this essay on menopause, which is beautiful.

Congrats on the move! It’s easy to buy stuff just to fill empty space, but you have to hold back a little to make sure it’s what you want (or maybe just me, since I am so indecisive). I placed my first ES order in August and the waiting is so tough! I can’t wait for the email telling me my order has shipped (though then I’ll just obsessively check the tracking).
The dress is more mid-weight. I hope I get as much wear out of it as I hope!
I just ordered the ES silk crepe Florence pants. Eager to read what you think, Grechen. Didn’t you try the Florence pants last year, or don’t you already have a pair?
i had a pair of medium short, and they were too small at the waist and too short…i did wear them a little while, and then i passed them on to my sister, sadly. i ordered the large short this time, i think the waist will be big enough so it will sit lower and be a little longer on me now. i hope so at least!!
We have a jetted tub in our current place, and before any bath, we fill it with [cool] water and about a cup of bleach and run the jets for about a minute. Drain, rinse, and use. Never had an issues, but I also haven’t taken apart the intake box because it terrifies me. It regularly gets a spray and a scrub when showering and I notice it looks funky. I highly recommend breaking in that tub with a Lush bath bomb, though. 😉
And most importantly, it looks like Dagny has adjusted just fine, yes? =D
haha. dagny is great now, thank you. she had some moments at first, no help that we had a huge thunderstorm the same night we moved in…she is very happy in her yard though 🙂 and i’m happy i don’t have to take her out 4 times a day!!
i am DYING to take a bath with a lush bath bomb!! but i’m not sure there’s any hope for the tub. i’m going to try, but the jets are already yucky looking, so it will take a whole lot of work to get usable…
