Marsell Bag
Wearing/Buying
I wore my new Elizabeth Suzann Rhodes sweater three times this week. Yes I did. And a few times last week. I think now it’s time for a wash…Turns out the weather has been perfect for it, and it’s the only thing I want to wear lately. It does work best with high-waisted bottoms though, I was constantly fidgeting with it wearing my jeans on Wednesday, trying to pull it down over my waistband…
I bought two pairs of high-waisted organic cotton briefs by Only Hearts on equal pay day, and as you can see here, I have a new bag. If you have a good eye and an even better memory, you may remember I posted about, or commented about, this Marsell bag during a round up or a feature (I’m not sure of what) some time ago. I have been stalking it ever since; it has EVERY.SINGLE. THING. I. WANT. in a bag: minimal/black hardware, multiple carrying options, inside pockets, tote, stays open, etc., etc. The problem is, this bag is one that they seem to repeat most seasons, in different colors and sizes, and it NEVER goes on sale in black. Until now, and totally randomly. I got it at Totokaelo on sale + 25% off during their friends and family discount, which brought it down to a hard-to-pass-up price (we’re talking DEEEEEEP discount). I must have bought the last one, because now it’s gone.
Anyway, I’m still test driving it at home to see if I want to keep it. I have been trying to only purchase leather second-hand lately (trying…not always succeeding!), but after searching and searching, became convinced I’d never find this one secondhand. I mean..why would anyone want to sell this bag?? It’s substantial, beautiful, and will last for many, many years. But it’s not something I necessarily want to carry right now – I’ve been super-happy with my James Perse mini canvas tote, which is perfect for summer.
Reading/Watching/Listening
I binged all of the S-Town podcast this week – actually I still have about 30 minutes left to listen to. I loved it, but I’m still unpacking the takeaways. Mostly, and this is pretty random, I was struck by just how amazing and interesting people are. Everyone has a story, and something to share – a place in this world – EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. And I’m not necessarily only talking about the “main” character in the podcast. I’m still learning this/working on this, but it’s so important not to judge a person by where he/she lives, what he/she wears, and how he/she speaks.
A few great independent designers are doing a virtual pop-up this weekend and are offering discount codes (Only Child included!!). I love this post by Andrea introducing it.
Eating/Doing
We’re going to the Atlanta-area on Monday/Tuesday next week for the Passover seder – just a quick overnight trip to stay with my in-laws and enjoy the seder. Eating lots of brisket and matzo ball soup I hope 🙂
Love love love that bag! As soon as I saw the first pic of it I had to click the link to learn more. I love that you can carry it 2 ways and the minimal look!
you can carry it THREE ways. NO, FOUR!! short handles, longer shoulder straps, longEST shoulder strap on your shoulder AND longEST shoulder strap CROSSBODY. Phew. 🙂
Ha! I wore almost the same thing yesterday! Love those pants. And the sweater. Wear it while you still can before it gets too hot!
I think this is my favorite outfit ever. You look so happy and comfortable.
That sweater is sold out in all sizes of both colors. I honestly never would have thought to purchase a cropped sweater for that price, but you keep posting it and it’s so versatile, that I put it in my cart at Elizabeth Suzann a few days ago. Then I decided to sleep on it, as by the time it was made and shipped to me, it would be almost May and pretty much out of season. I decided to go for it today, on the theory that I would have it for when it gets cold again, even if I don’t wear it for the next five months, and, boom, sold out! So, I’m going to try some ES linen instead. I don’t think that it’s possible to go wrong with ES.
Also, I just got back from bringing the dog to the vet, and I got to talking to a woman in the waiting room who was wearing cropped jeans, loafers, a box top sweater, and a fatigue jacket. She was very much dressed in your style, and I was dying to ask her if it was all sustainably sourced, but I didn’t dare because I’m not sure how I would have recovered if she had said no. But it was a bit of fun on a grey Friday afternoon.
i was sort of surprised it was sold out today, it seemed to have happened overnight. sorry 🙁 i actually got mine the same week i ordered it, though, so i don’t know what that was about…
you’re right, you CANNOT go wrong with ES. but they are launching a new collection on april 26th though, so maybe hold off and see if there’s something you’d like better? I’ll be working with them again this season to review some pieces, but I won’t get them for a while.
i wish you’d take a picture surreptitiously LOL – my dad does that sometimes and i’m horrified that he does it!! so no, maybe i don’t wish you’d taken a picture. but it sounds like a great outfit!
Your use of this sweater has helped me use my two cropped sweaters in new ways. I’ve been wearing mine over dresses and loving the way it changes the look of the dresses and adds more versatility to my small-ish wardrobe. Cheers!
So adorable this, love the pants more each time you wear them- and the sneakers so cute
Happy Passover with the in-laws
oh, nice! i love hearing that 🙂
not tired =)
Hopefully, that sweater will be back again in the fall. I was thinking of waiting until April 26th for the new ES spring line, but there were some things I couldn’t wait to try, so I have some to tide me over. I bought the Harper tunic in linen based on your review of it (a while ago) – I find the photos of you in it to be much more flattering that the ones on the ES website.
And will do on the sneaky photos in the future!
