SLOWRE will be at The Boho Market this weekend π
Shopping:
Cuyana – I’ve been holding out on you guys; I got this large clutch by Cuyana a month or so ago and didn’t tell you. I wanted first, to try out the brand, and also to see if I could use a large clutch at all, and it turns out, I can. I use it everyday to go to and from Pure Barre, and it’s large enough to hold my wallet, my large CdG pouch, phone, and mints/lip balm/etc. And I use it very infrequently when Leo and I just go out for a quick dinner – I used it last night. I love it, actually, and have found it very useful, but the gold zipper just kills me. I find it really annoying and bright. Yes, I know that’s weird, but I don’t want any hardware lately – which is why I’m gravitating towards open totes I suspect. I don’t mind matte hardware, or tonal, or even silver on the Cuyana products would be okay, but the gold is just too much. For me. Anyway, I highly recommend it as a very good large clutch for whatever you could imagine – if you don’t mind gold hardware π
Elizabeth Suzann – I’m going to do a full post on Elizabeth Suzann’s cold weather collection next week, but FYI, they’re sending me a Harper wool tunic to review! It will be a few more weeks before I get it, but I’m so excited to be working with them again to review a piece for you. I chose the wool tunic because I read some concerns about the wool, whether it would be itchy or not, and wanted to see for myself. Of course, I have experience with wool from Imperial Ranch in Portland already, via Emerson Fry, and found it to be incredibly warm and not itchy at all. I requested the One Size in black. I choose one size instead of one size minus (which is the size of my linen harper tunic) because I wanted to be able to layer underneath it, and am always concerned about arm size. Also, I find the neck opening on my harper tunic to be slightly restrictive sometimes and wanted something a bit wider for the sweater. Did anyone else order this?
Shopbop – I placed my order this morning after much hemming and hawing and back and forth…but I decided to go with my gut and get a few things I’ve had my eye on for a long time, but that are very “basic” and highly practical: The Rag & Bone nylon pilot backpack, Tumi M Tote and Acne Studios apollo poncho/wrap in gray. Hopefully not everything will go back, I can’t imagine that at least the Tumi tote won’t be exactly what I’m looking for, but I’m concerned about the Acne wrap being too long – too “big” on me, and I’ll have to play around with the backpack to see if it will work for me in a way that the small Everlane one didn’t.
Reformation – Just a reminder not to forget Reformation for sweater shopping. The brand does tend to skew “younger” and “sexier” than most, but they are one of the most environmentally sustainable/conscious fashion forward companies out there in my opinion, and they use a lot of alpaca for their sweaters (more responsible than wool or cashmere generally).
Pure Barre Clothing – I rotate 5-6 pairs of leggings and random tanks/shirts for 5-6 days of Pure Barre a week, so each pair of leggings gets worn about 52 times a year. When I buy leggings/tops I wear them as long as I possibly can (my oldest pair is 3 years old and has a hole in the heel, but I still wear them!), cycling out the more worn pairs gradually. In the last couple of weeks, I reluctantly retired an old pair of Lululemon leggings and bought this pair of ALO leggings (I love alo) and this Nux tank top, so I’m good for a while! I love alo’s high-waist leggings and airbrushed texture, this is my 3rd pair of alo leggings…
Reading:
Sometimes I pick up one or two $1.99 or $2.99 kindle books at amazon when they have good ones, and then don’t read them; Β I have to be in “the mood” for certain books. Β I got the Snow Child a long time ago and it’s just sat on my Kindle until last weekend when I started reading it. I’m not finished with it yet, but it’s a very nice, easy, well-written book – I’m enjoying it very much. It’s set in Alaska, which I’m fascinated by, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
This weekend:
The Boho Market – SLOWRE will be a vendor at the Boho Market here in DFW this weekend! I’m really excited, and looking forward to the weekend, although I know I’ll be wiped out Sunday night. Tonight it goes until 10 PM, which is an hour after my bedtime (honestly…), so we’ll see how I hold up! Please come see me this weekend if you’re in the area, I’d love to meet in person.
And speaking of SLOWRE, please check out the new arrivals if you haven’t lately; I just addedΒ some great Hackwith Design House pieces (one tank already sold). Β I’m aiming to upload new items once weekly on Wednesdays to get some sort of routine down, just FYI.
Happy Friday!! What are your plans this weekend? What did you end up buying at Shopbop? anything? Did you take advantage of any of the F&F sales/codes?
No online shopping this week. I haven’t started switching over my closet or looking at my cool weather clothing yet so I don’t know that I need anything anyway. [am leaning toward “no” but we’ll see] Am meeting a college roommate this weekend to shop (she lives an hour and a half away but we don’t get together often π Not high fashion shopping, alas – probably the craft store & Ulta or Sephora π Hoping for a bonfire on Saturday night – it’s finally cool enough in the afternoon/evening to do that again. Good luck with Slowre this weekend!!!
I know what you mean about the gold hardware. I have the black zipper tote for later this fall and winter, and it does have bright gold accents. But I’ve also had Cuyana’s Classic Tote for several years, and it’s open on top. The only zipper is inside on the pocket, so it’s not noticeable at all. I love it and it’s very versatile. I’ll have to check out Reformation’s sweaters. Most of mine are black or grey, and I’m on the hunt for a longer cardigan in a pretty blush color. Happy Friday!
I have been eyeing some Cuyana totes for a while, and the gold zipper bothers me too – however an open top bag bothers me even more. I’m paranoid about my stuff falling out! So I may just have to deal with the bright gold zipper. I’m thinking about getting the small carry-all tote because I’d kind of like to have a nice looking bag with a cross-body strap. Does the leather soften up? How is doing after a month of use?
I haven’t bought any clothes recently, and I’m trying to hold off because my husband and I are about to get into vegetable growing!! We just bought some raised planters and are trying to decide which vegetables to try before winter hits. Though we are in DFW so winter won’t be really be here until maybe December, if at all…(I’m very cynical about winter in Texas).
Have fun at the market!
yes, the leather is really nice, and has softened up – i wish it was softer, but i think it’ll get there…
i would love a vegetable garden! we don’t even have a yard, so…that’s so exciting though, better than new clothes π
i’m glad to know i’m not alone !!
reformation had a really nice cardigan that was lighter in color, but it sold out. i love the new pinks/blushes lately, i wanted a pair of pinkish shoes, but can’t settle on a pair that meet my standards, or that fit well. ugh.
oh, sounds fun, what a nice relaxing weekend !! i love those π i won’t have one for a while. hopefully this one will be fruitful though, and then next weekend we’re going to south florida to visit friends who just had a baby and see my dad for a couple days.
You might consider a raised planter box! The ones we got stand about 3 feet off the ground and are 2×4 ft so you could probably fit one in an apartment. Even though we have a yard, the soil down here is terrible. I also have dogs that would trample anything we grew. π
For the Shopbop sale I ended up just getting two chokers, the Lacey Ryan Box Chain Choker Necklace and the Vanessa Mooney Tibi Choker Necklace. I wanted to get a top or two, but felt sort of meh about everything once I looked at my cart at checkout, so opted to just get the jewelry. Last week I went to Bloomingdale’s during their F&F sale and got a pair of black EF crepe slim ankle pants and an asymmetrical jersey top in olive for some solid cold weather basics. Nordstrom had a price match sale on Wolford tights, and I picked up a pair of the matte black ones since I’ve read rave reviews about them. But I need to exchange them for a larger size since they seem to run smaller than the size guide says on the packaging. It’s probably good that I’ve been really picky lately about buying clothes and accessories since this weekend we’re probably going on some property showings with our realtor. A new home purchase will not leave us with much disposable income for a little while, so it’s good practice right now to not spend as much as I normally do on “fun” things! I still need some flat ankle boots and the Acne Jensens are still calling my name, but the price is hard to justify even though they are beautiful. Good luck at the Boho Market Grechen!
Yep. I’ve realized bright gold hardware is a no-go for me so I don’t even try anymore. I bought a Moop clutch this year and used it for a while but it kind of annoyed me. I’m not getting rid of it though (no gold zipper!). I’ll try again later.
I’m so excited for your ES review. I’m devastated that I didn’t get to any of their open studios in September. Life (and a death in the family to be honest) got in the way. Hoping for one before Christmas!
Didn’t order anything online this season except for ES. I’ve had good luck in the consignment stores recently and I’m hoping to extend my luck. I do kind of like the Job sweater on Reformation though…
Good luck with Slowre this weekend!
Can’t wait for your ES Cold Weather Collection review! Maybe there are possibilities that I’m overlooking because I didn’t see anything that would work for me. Also, I would have like some color. Kinda bummed.
The ES tunic sweater is beautiful! Hope you like it. I love the Acne poncho, but I can see what you mean about the potential for drowning a small frame. I got a black cotton poncho by Minnie Rise and I’ve worn it a ton! It’s just right for my hot-flash prone, itchy skin.
I liked The Snow Child. I won’t say more until you’re done.
Shopped (WAY overdid it at Sephora!) and got mani’s with my daughter in NYC yesterday. Had a blast.
oh!! i’m anxious to finish it now. but i didn’t get to read AT ALL this weekend π
I’m so curious about the ES cold weather collection. I love the cocoon coat, but can’t rationalize spending that much on an item that is returnable only for credit. That and I live in north Florida, so a winter coat is not an essential ;). I have four ES pieces and I love them all, my only complaint is is waist band on my linen Florence pants are a bit snug. I would probably keep the coat, but for $1k+, I feel like it should be returnable for a refund. I love the Clyde pants also, but I’m afraid the waist will be snug, and I think I would prefer it if they sat closer to my hips.
i agree on the exchange only idea, i find that hard sometimes…especially for that amount of money!
i’m going to write more about the clyde pants tomorrow, because i’m wearing them right now, and that will be my outfit post for tomorrow LOL – but in comparison with the florence waistband, in the same size, i DO NOT find it snug at all. it’s wider, also, which helps it feel better around my waist. i honestly don’t even notice the waistband. and you could wear them a little lower if you want, i prefer them up higher on my waist because they’re shorter on my legs that way, but i definitely wear them more “slouchy” if i’m so inclined…
