Just a quick note that free shipping on all orders (US-based only!) ends Sunday at SLOWRE: use code SUMMER. If you place an order after noon tomorrow (7/8), it probably won’t ship out until 7/18 though, FYI. Any orders placed today or early tomorrow morning will ship out ASAP.
I’ve done some significant wardrobe purging the last few days; things I just don’t reach for much anymore, so you will see some black dresses of mine on there, including my very favorite OAK maxi dress (ah! between the time I wrote this and published this, that dress has sold!). Never fear though, I already have the smaller size on order, so I won’t be without the dress for very long. I just couldn’t deal with the dress falling off my shoulders the last time I wore it…it’s too big for me lately.
And shoes…oh, shoes…some of my shoes are there as well. Shoes I don’t wear as often as I’d like to, so I’m passing them on. I hope someone else will love and wear them more than I do!
Now for Friday random:
Remember in my review of Marie Kondo’s “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” I mentioned that she suggested taking everything out of your handbag every night upon returning home, and storing your bag for the next day? And how I thought that was a bit excessive? Well, I’m doing it now. Only for the last couple of days, but man, already, it is life-changing. Maybe slightly less than life-changing, but an important development nonetheless.
This way, I can choose the bag I need to carry based on what I need to put in it, not what is already IN it. I actually saw an instagram post by Dacy from The Mindful Closet that she had started doing this, which was what spurred me to try it. Also, I want to carry more than the same bag all the time – I need to get myself out of the mindset that I must carry a big bag so I can fit every single thing + my laptop in it at all times. It also keeps the clutter out of whatever bag I carry, random receipts, etc., get organized every time I return home. Brilliant.
Do you think you could do that? Do you do it already? do you carry the same bag everyday?
Love this idea. I have several bags but seem to use the same one over and over, wishing many times I had a different bag with me. Thanks I am going to try this.
Aw, thanks for the shoutout! So glad you’re trying and enjoying this too…
I’m so boring! It’s the same J Crew leather tote every.single.day. And in the winter it was my Clare V. black suede messenger bag every.single.day.
I haven’t done this lately but I did it for years. Used to change bags a lot when I worked for Prada and had less of a minimalist style. Also if I was playing tennis after work (like every other day) I wore a sportier bag but did leathers on the non-outdoor days. I had a basket in my walk-in. Every evening I’d dump the contents of my bag in the basket. It also serves as a good reminder to remove any items that shouldn’t be carried the next day like purchases, receipts, notes that are no longer needed and candy wrappers (true story). You have very similar items as I do! I love baggu reusable bags and that looks like a Comme Des Garcon wallet (I have the green embossed clover version – just ordered the smaller half zip for teeny purses in the embossed turquoise star). I think I’ll need to start doing this again. At any rate, I dump my bag out each morning on the bed after I get dressed for the day and do kind of the same process.
I have a bit of a purse obsession, so I definitely match my purse to my outfit. I keep a cosmetic bag with multiple pockets, that holds my day-to-day stuff – makeup, phone, business cards and such – and just pop it into the bag I’m using for the day. Keeps me from forgetting things in another purse (though I still do… 🙂 )
I never heard about this trick, but yes I actually think I could do it – I might actually try, rather sooner than later
Nope. I use the same work tote seasonally, and change my purse ever couple of months too. No energy or desire to change every day. I do make sure to clean out receipts etc every weekend at least.
Why are you selling your Shaina Mote dress?
Yes I do this – seemed silly at first but really keeps the clutter at bay and it’s easier to just grab what you need.
Ugh, bummed I missed that Oak dress. I love the SM one but I am not a size 4. Surprised the MB skirt is listed.
I’m just trying to be realistic about what I want in my closet. If I’d tried the mb skirt on in person, I never would have bought it. I liked it okay at first but whenever I think about wearing it or put it on I choose something else instead…
Makes sense. I know you weren’t thrilled about the waist. It’s like keeping that thing that you want to wear but you take it off every time you put it on. it’s never going to change and at some point, it’s got to go.
