Everlane has launched quite a few new pieces lately, and lots more are coming (new cashmere! ponte!), so I thought it was time for a quick update. What have you purchased from Everlane recently? Please leave your review!
I went back and forth initially on ordering the Petra backpack, but so far have decided to pass. I like it a lot, and think it looks very well made, and quite practical, but I don’t need it. I’ve also passed on many of the other new arrivals lately, mostly because I just can’t do a lot more fall stuff now, until it starts to cool off more. I will get the luxe sweater in emerald at some point, and I’m interested in the clean edge tee in nutmeg (color!), and maybe the striped top, but I’m sort of ‘meh’ on everything lately. The full-length trench is nice, but I can’t imagine ever wearing one….
I’m VERY interested in the new cashmere, especially that cropped, higher neck style I included in the image above; it’s just what I need to balance out my slouchier cashmere. And I like Everlane’s cashmere. It’s not super-fancy, or VERY soft, but it wears well, and does seem to soften up over time and wear. The new pewter color for the modern loafer is GORGEOUS, and did you see the new colors for the Petra bags coming soon?? And the wool dress?? As always, I get excited about Everlane launches, ut have learned to temper my expectations a lot lately, since many pieces don’t seem to work well on my body. Again, if you’ve ordered any of the new fall items, please leave a review here and let us know what you thought!
On to my favorite cashmere brand…Inhabit has a few final markdowns today (sizes are selling out) and here are two of my favorites:
Inhabit cashmere cardigan | $198
Inhabit cashmere shawl collar sweater | $88
And finally, organic underwear:
(via Grechen’s Codes)
Hanky Panky organic cotton bikini | $29
Hanky Panky original rise organic cotton thong | $18
Skin organic cotton high-rise bikini | $26
Commando high-rise panty | $32 (not organic, made in the US)
I posted this Neiman Marcus deal yesterday on Grechen’s Codes: use code INT25 for $25 off your $100 order of lingerie through tomorrow. I have been going through my underwear drawer the last few weeks, making a point to wear each piece and then either keep it or toss it (I’m saving the tossed ones in a box, but not sure if I should donate?) based on how it fits and whether or not it’s comfortable. I have a LOT of underwear that is too big for me now, and/or simply not comfortable, but I’ve kept them in around “just in case” or to wear when I want to “save” my comfy undies. What? I’m SO TIRED of wearing uncomfortable underwear, so I have been BRUTAL getting rid of them. Which has basically left me having to wash my delicates much more often than I’d like lately.
As I replenish my underwear drawer, my mission is to do it with organic cotton as much as possible, and with the NM code, I purchased all the pairs you see here. I did get one Commando pair that is not organic cotton (but it is made in the US) because I’ve been wanting to try a more high-waist, full-coverage panty. Granny panties, as it were…
Anyway, I will write much more about this later, in a full review post (I tried PACT organic cotton boyshorts recently also…) and my impressions of all my new panties, but if you’re in the market for lingerie, organic or not, this is a great deal, especially if you can keep your cart to around $100 😉
How is your fall shopping going? What have you purchased? What are you still looking for?
OH. Elizabeth Suzann launched shoes yesterday and they are GORGEOUS. I almost ordered a pair, but couldn’t do it. I love the exclusive colors, but I think I’d prefer black, and I can get those from the designer directly for $240. Did anyone order a pair??
OH!!!! ALSO, Beklina is offering 50% off Kowtow (organic cotton) with code kowttt50 – I ordered the gray cardigan in small and the focus dress in size medium. So excited!!!! hurry though, I know these will go fast…
I’m interested in the wool jersey tee and the ponte!!! I also really hope they are going to bring back the chunky knit sweater this winter. I bought two colors last year and wore them multiple times a week. I would adore it in a camel color! (Lol clearly hoping everlane reads this…)
Hi Grechen. I ordered Everlane’s new point loafer, the stripe black/white shirt and the clean edge tees in short and long sleeve. Plus the new trench. I am anxiously waiting for the fed-ex man to bring me my things !! I will post reviews here when I get them. I love your blog !!
haha! (they do) 🙂
i’m interested in the wool jersey also.
yay!! can’t wait to hear what you think. that point loafer is cool…
Thanks for this post, Grechen. What’s funny is that the two items of Inhabit cashmere you posted are the two that I purchased today. SPLURGE alert! I ordered the cardigan in M and the v-neck in L as it’s much more fitted. I have found that the silhouettes pictured on their website (i.e. how they hang on the uber-skinny models) gives me the best idea of which size to order. I made a mistake of ordering a loose card in L one time and have been sorry ever since. I simply can’t wear it, keep waiting for a way to give it away to a friend.
I can’t wait for fall and sweater season here in Colorado!
Oh those Elizabeth Suzann shoes… I waited oh so patiently for yesterday. I love love love that burgundy color. And I ordered the black ones from Etsy. I’ll let you know what I think when I get them!
I also ordered the Jane kimono and Eva sweater from ES.
And my shopping is now complete until Christmas!
I’d like to hear from anyone on the Luxe Sweater collection…v neck and u neck appeal to me, and maybe the cardigan. I don’t have much luck with fit, either, so haven’t bothered to order anything. Do you still wear the loafers, Grechen?
I thought I was going to be resistant to Inhabit sales, but I fear I am going to cave on a couple pieces. I’m torn, because they have such little resale value. My last several cashmere sweaters have sold for about $20 on eBay. I do like that many of their cuts less form-fitting than they used to be. I’ve had to get rid of anything that sticks to my luscious love handles. I own a couple styles from the sale list already and am pretty happy with them.
My original goal was to not buy any sweaters, and buy a couple nice scarves instead. I’m not so good at reaching my goals…
(I didn’t order the ES shoes. What I meant to say was, and I ordered the black ones because as much as I love them I couldn’t justify the price from ES.)
Whoo hoo! Kowtow Building Black dress ordered!
How long will it take for your shoes to arrive? That burgundy is so beautiful but I’m with you on the price. She’s justified in the markup I guess but still… Can’t wait to hear what you think of them!!!
If I recall correctly most reviewers have said that they luxe sweaters are rather sheer? That doesn’t bother me…but FYI. I’ll order mine soon and post pictures.
I will absolutely wear my loafers when the weather cools off. Was trying them on yesterday with stuff actually LOL. Can’t wait…
Yay!!!
2 – 6 weeks. Of course the ES website says they have all the shoes currently in stock so those would have arrived within a week! Oh well. I’ve been patient this long…
I ordered the emerald u-neck luxe and sent it back….I didn’t love how it layed on my pear shape. The band didn’t sit at the right spot, I need a good side vent in my sweaters, lesson learned.
I have some Everlane cashmere, and I think I’ve decided to pass from now on. It’s beautiful and cozy, but high maintenance for me…so.many.pills. It took me 30 min to get the pills off one cardigan this weekend using a pumice-like sweater stone. Anyone have other de-pilling suggestions or advice?!?!
I also liked the seamless tee in nutmeg but to be perfectly honest I am a little afraid of ordering Everlane now. More than half of what I have purchased from there has not held up well at all. I just have a feeling this will be one that won’t as well. Its also a shipping/return fee so its not risk free.
I really loved this company(or the idea of it) when they first started but now, not so much. I agree with a previous poster about the cashmere also-the pills are just not worth it. It takes too much time to do and you have to do it a lot before the sweater “settles”.
The “d-fuzz-it sweater and fabric comb” is my bff. I’ve never been happy with the sweater stone.
Hi!
I actually wore the Everlane luxe cardigan in black today and loved it! It is a little more sheer, but it was a perfect layer on a day like today which was a chilly am and warmer afternoon. I am considering another color. Size small was perfect-I could button if I wanted to, but left it to hang. For reference, I am a small in Everlane everything, except the Ryan long sleeve when I prefer the drape of the medium ( and they then cover the tushie), and a J Crew size 4-6.
The clean edge t’s look interesting to me, but I may pass until I hear reviews on the material and the drape. Plus, from the model they look to have a higher crew neck, which isn’t great on me. Remember their Crew sweatshirt that came out last year? I hated that fabric–too stiff and bulky. I’ve been hoping for more of the terry sweatshirts (i have every color), because they are soft as can be. So I am concerned that the clean edge fabric will have that same stiff feel.
The stripe shirt looked sort of boxy, but again am waiting for reviews. So as of now, I haven’t loved anything enough to take the plunge other than the luxe card. I will continue to have high hopes for the ponte collection!
I was eyeing the Everlane loafers for many, many months, and the day I decided to pull the trigger is the day they launched the new pointy toe flat. Those spoke to me more (although the green loafer is so pretty), so I ended up ordering them in the wine color. Should be arriving this week – yay!
nice! please let us know what you think!
oh, thanks for the input on the luxe cardigan, i think i’ll get that in a medium and the mock neck sweater in a small. i guess i’d like the cardigan to be a bit more drapey? we’ll see how it works. i also just ordered the striped shirt in small…so…I’ll have a review next week 🙂
see, i haven’t had that big of an issue with the cashmere. i had a MUCH bigger pilling problem with the chunky wool cardigan. i mean…it was BAD, i just gave up trying to de-pill.
great minds 🙂
i haven’t ordered much from inhabit lately, mostly because i don’t need anything, but i’m also having a hard time with sizing. the sweater they sent me earlier this year in medium is quite large on me now…but i know not everything is cut so large. i have stretch cashmere pieces from years ago in size large that fit me very nicely now, they were more fitted to begin with, but still there’s such a disparity. sounds like you made the right decision with the sizes you chose!
I ordered quite a few pieces from Everlane lately: the longer trench, the boxy striped tee, the clean edge tee (both in short-sleeve and the muscle tee), and the modern point loafers (both in black and burgundy).
The trench’s a keeper. I was looking for a crisp-looking black trench for a couple of years now and this one checks all the boxes. It fits a tiny bit looser than the short version (I’m usually a medium), fabric and quality are the same. I’m 5ft6″, and the trench nearly covers my knees. I wouldn’t mind it being an inch shorter, but it’s not a big deal.
The boxy striped tee doesn’t necessarily feel luxurious: the fabric is a bit coarse and also stiff. But I like the boxy cut and the slightly shorter length. The side vents are higher than expected though and may show some skin when moving the arms. I try to avoid the problem with wearing my favorite high-waisted skinny jeans (Madewell).
The clean edge tees are a bit of a disappointment. While I appreciate the tightly woven fabric (after all the sheer tees, it’s nice to have something opaque every once in a while), overall the tees feel plain. I kept one black short sleeve tee, but returned the rest. I also wonder how the stiff hem, which does look a bit more elegant than your average tee, will hold up after washing. My muscle tee was also noticeably smaller than the short-sleeve ones, the fit was nowhere near “relaxed”.
The pointy loafers are a tough one. I am very picky about shoes and for the most part the loafers do hold up. The quality is very nice, with the leather being softer than in Everlane’s original loafers. The pointy toe gives a little bit of an edge. Also, if you size up, they pretty much fit perfectly. I have more of a wider foot and had no issues. I didn’t like that the burgundy leather shows a bit of a “distressed” look at the edges (you can see it when zooming in on their website); the black leather is perfect, though. I am just not sure if the pointy toe is comfortable enough for walking miles and miles around the city.
I just ordered the longer trench today! You and I are the same height, but I am all torso, so was always hesitant about the length of the swing trench, but have wanted to invest in a traditional trench for a few years now. I’m really excited about it. This will be one of several things I’ve purchased from Everlane, and like you, I have mixed feelings about the way things fit and work with my body (I’m hourglass-shaped).
Tees. So soft! I wouldn’t mind if the fabric was just a touch heavier. The white, in particular, is pretty see through and especially on my post-partum body (I had twins in June), I find the fabric clings to my tummy a bit. I have about 5 tees – four u and a v.
Striped heavyweight tee: LOVE.
Loafers: WAY too narrow. I think I’m going to soak them and try to stretch them out. This might ruin them. I’ll take my chances.
Cashmere: pills like crazy and I wish the fog cardi I ordered had been the original traditional grey instead of the faded blue-grey of the fog, which comes across as a bit of a dingy pastel blue in real life. The effect is more sloppy than slouchy. I will probably try another piece at some point. Not the sweater you pictured because high crew neck + cropped fit is pretty much the worst cut for me ever.
Silk: the small fits like a dream.
Pink poplin: more of a dusty rose in real life (I was hoping for a more peachy pink) and pulls/gapes at bust in a size small. I wish it had a touch more stretch.
Sleeveless dress: OMG I LOVE THIS. I wish the buttons went as far as the placket because I’m nursing and can’t wear it when I need to nurse or pump.
Luxe cardigan in taupe – I love the material and will likely order more from this line, but find the gape of the pockets makes the lines a little weird sometimes with the curve of my hips. Again, can come across as more sloppy than slouchy on my body, but it doesn’t pill and the material is lovely. Maybe the v-neck?
That Inhabit cardi is pretty! I am not sure I need another long cardigan, but it is mighty tempting.
I’ll have to look into this. My Everlane cashmere is a pilled, nasty mess.
i have a lily brush (http://www.amazon.com/Lilly-Brush-Sweater-Pill-Remover/dp/B0095ZOIWC) and i love it, but it take some work!!
Just got the Everlane luxe V-neck and modern point flats today and am pretty happy with both. The v-neck is definitely tunic-length – I have a very long torso and have difficulty finding tops long enough to cover all my business when I wear leggings and this does the job. I imagine on the average to short-waisted person it would hit even lower. The fabric is kind of thin and looks sheer when held up to the light but I could not see my black cami through the gray sweater so that’s good enough for me. One thing I didn’t notice in the picture when I ordered is the dropped shoulder – I don’t love it but I don’t hate it either.
I got the flats in black and white and love how they look! I usually wear ballet flats with a lower vamp and thought these might be too masculine but they aren’t at all. Quality seems great. I did take their suggestion and size up half a size. They are still a little cramped in the toe box but I think as the leather softens with wear it will improve. No issues with my heels slipping out which is common for me with flats.
Hi!
The small luxe was more droopey because of the pockets than drapey, if that makes sense. The pockets make the sweater sort of droop out . Length wise, it was mid-tush on me. The weight of it is what i liked the most–it was light but seemed like it would keep you warm but not overheat. With a scarf, it would be a great layer. Its not a boyfriend style type cardigan, more of a classic style.
Dying to hear your review of the striped shirt!!!!! Oh and if you order the mock neck too! That would make for a very classic, put together look I feel
Hi How was the neckline of the clean edge? Was it a high crew neck–like over your collar bone like how it looks on the model?
It’s a true crew neck, my collarbone is covered.
I spotted a pic of Garance Dore’s showing a pair of adorably chic black and white loafers that she tagged Everlane…could those be the ones you’re talking about, Lisa?!?
I have something like that, too, Christina, and I like it better than any other pill-remover I’ve used.
STRIPES!!! Yay, Grechen! 😉
Just bought a scarf in an olive-ish color from http://www.scarf-shop.com/cotton/ in Minneapolis. They do it all themselves and have lots of gorgeous colors at very fair prices to start with, but at 15% off plus free shipping today. I just saw it on their Instagram feed or I would’ve posted sooner!
Trying not to buy very much since I’m losing weight!
I’m an everlane shopper, but was disappointed in their new stuff. I have other costs from everlane that are great but the black trench is so bulky, long, and absolutely everything sticks too it-it reminds me of the cheap material you’d get at H&m, not everlane quality so I sent back. I also bought the stripped T but the slits on the side are too high and show more skin than I’d like to-so had to send back. This is not the quality I’m used to getting from them, I don’t know what’s up.
Hi. I rec’d my new items from everlane. A few thoughts. I love the new clean edge tees. I wear an xs in the V neck and the U neck and texture tops. The xs fits in the clean edge but is definitely a tad smaller than the other tees. the arms from the elbow to wrist are cut smaller/narrower. I have washed the short sleeve and long sleeve versions and neither shrunk. I hung wet and hit with an iron. After doing so they looked just like they did when they arrived from everlane. the crisp 2 inch seam at the bottom and on the arms stayed present. overall the tops look much better than my other tees from everlane. they just look nicer on . better material. a step up. I ordered more. the stripe shirt was a disaster. you could see a good 2 inches of my belly on either side. ridiculous. disaster. it went back. no second thought and a size bigger wouldn’t have fixed it. i guess that is why the model is wearing mom jeans in the pic with the shirt on. the modern point loafer is great. i have a narrow foot and had to put little pads in the toe box area. super comfy. no breaking in required. the long trench coat i am keeping but it seems to run a bit big. there is no way the belt will ever work. the smallest notch is too big. so if you get it, plan on tying it in front like the model. maybe that is the style. overall it is cute on. has a slimming cut. nice collar. fun piece.
Belated reply, but the Kowtow dress– the Building Block long-sleeve dress– I ordered came the other day and I’m very happy. It has very, very long sleeves, which I love, and reminds me a bit of Rick Owens, so it’s got a bit more oomph than I was expecting from what is essentially a t-shirt dress. I also like that the Kowtow Building Block pieces don’t have tags.
And, on a side note, I liked the (minimalist) packaging Beklina used for shipping. I hate getting big boxes for small items, and this was simply, but nicely folded and in tissue, in a large envelope.
Yes! Did you get a sachet? I also got a lavender sachet :). I love it.
I’ll write more about mine when I can actually wear them. But I love them both sooo much. Especially the sweatshirt dress. It’s just what I was looking for. With pockets.
bummer, no sachet for me! But then again, I only ordered one item that was 50% off, so not exactly their best customer!
Update: I think these flats are really nicely made. They had virtually no breaking in period and the burgundy color is really nice. I still couldn’t decide whether I preferred this silhouette to the loafers – i do prefer masculine shapes but i like that these slip on easily and are great for a work meeting. BUT, I ended up finding the loafers in black on ebay for under $80, so they are on their way to me now;)
My only concern is that I sized up on the pointy flat as Everlane suggested, and the loafers are my true size. I do think my true size may have been fine with the pointy flats too though – i have some room in them.
Has anyone bought the Petra backpack? Or Gretchen, have you seen it in person?I’m currently contemplating purchasing it. It’s between that and the Petra crossbody. I’m worried the crossbody may be a bit narrow to jam all of my stuff into, but it can also be dressed up a lot more than the backpack. I am a big backpack fan though.
i like the backpack very much…and have considered getting it off and on since it launched. i may still…!!
i love the petra leather and think it holds up beautifully, and becomes nice and soft while still maintaining a little structure. i don’t feel like i have to be particularly careful with it either ; i use my large petra tote as a carry on tote when i fly and then sometimes as a handbag at my destination. it stands up to a LOT of abuse!!
i like the crossbody fine, but i don’t love crossbodys that can ONLY be crossbodys, you know? i’d rather have something with a shorter handle as well as a longer one. but that’s just me. also, there’s NO WAY i’d be able to get everything i need in that bag; it looks too narrow and also like it wouldn’t “give” as much to accommodate more.
i say if you’re a backpack fan, to give the backpack a try. it’s a backpack, so it’s hard to “dress up” specifically, but it’s so clean looking that if you wear it just on your shoulder and not AS a backpack, no one may ever know that it’s not just a handbag.
Thanks, Gretchen! You’re the best. I always appreciate your thoughtful reviews. I’m going to pull the trigger on the backpack. Merry Christmas to me!
Happy holidays, and a Happy New Year to you!
yay!! merry christmas 🙂
please let us know what you think of it…i hope it’s wonderful!
Hi again! I got the Everlane Petra backpack. It’s GORGEOUS– you weren’t kidding about the quality of the leather. It has some structure to it, but is still incredibly soft and feels quite luxe. I like it a lot better than the Mansur Gavriel bags, which, though beautiful, have a really stiff leather that seems like it’ll take forever to break in.
The backpack is also the perfect size to throw in everything I commute with (full sized wallet, sunglasses, kindle, mini umbrella, etc.) Here’s my only issue with the backpack: as a New Yorker, I need to dig into the bag really frequently and quickly to get my metro card, etc, and it’s not really made for quick access, due to the two part closure system. You can see on the video of the backpack on the Everlane website, but to secure the contents of the bag, you have to tighten the drawstring and then pull the drawstrings through a loop on the back of the flap to secure the flap. It doesn’t make for easy grabbing. This could be fixed if they used a hidden magnetic snap to secure the flap instead of the loop for the drawstring. I am keeping the bag anyway because I adore it, and wondering how much it would cost to add a snap to the bag. A lesser issue is that they used heavy metal toggles to finish the drawstrings instead of just knotting the leather like on similar drawstring bags. Since the toggles are heavy they sort of slap against the bag when you walk quickly, making a thumping sound. So a couple issues maybe only a type A New Yorker would be bothered by, but worth mentioning. Overall still pretty pleased with the purchase. Thanks for your help!
such a great review! and that closure would be an issue for me also, i have a hard time when i can’t immediately get into my bag. and i wondered how that worked after watching the video! i would definitely look into having a snap put in, it can’t be that expensive to do, and i think it would make a huge difference for you.
i’m so glad you like it!!
