Eileen Fisher lofty recycled cashmere blend sweater | $448 at Nordstrom
I played around with the recycled cashmere at Eileen Fisher yesterday at the store here in Winter Park and it’s really wonderful. Quite an investment, still, but beautifully made and an luxurious way to recycle, if I may say so. Here in Florida they don’t have a huge cashmere/sweater selection as it stays rather warm through the winter for cashmere, but they did have the box sweater and a scarf.
I also inspected the undyed seamless cashmere sweater (charcoal version – not undyed – at Nordstrom) and it is exquisite. I talked with the sales associate and she mentioned that they try very hard to minimize the seaming, which also minimizes waste. And you can tell looking at the sweater that every effort was made to economize on thread used for seaming, and actually avoid seams (there have to be some) as much as possible. Then, when there is waste, they clip it and use it to make the recycled cashmere scarves.

I really admire everything Eileen Fisher does to advance sustainability in the fashion industry, and appreciate that they’re now displaying signs in their windows explaining as much; that we have a choice when buying clothes, and should understand the consequences of those choices. The price point for many people is still a hard sell, but again, it comes down to “better” over “more” and choosing that tradeoff: 4 Everlane cashmere sweaters or 1 Eileen Fisher?
Oh! I have that oversized sweater. I haven’t worn it yet – still deciding whether to exchange the charcoal for the arnica color. I had been holding on to a $200 gift card and a $100 “reward” so the sweater was practically free 😉
The photo doesn’t do the sweater justice, imo, and I don’t like the way Eileen Fisher styled it. The shape is amazing and unlike anything else I have. My one issue is that the charcoal is pretty dark – almost black but not, if you know what I mean, and I wish it were a little lighter. Or black!
I agree on the styling. Not the best! But I love the sweater!! I bet the arnica is pretty in person.
It is gorgeous! I’m just a little concerned that I might get tired of it quicker than I would the charcoal. I’m leaning toward keeping the charcoal and wearing it with a scarf in a color like the arnica. Great combination!
I love those other sweaters you posted too. If they ever go on sale …
I love that idea, Christine! Keep the sweater classic and pop the accessory. Agreed about the styling!
Grechen, you’ve got me thinking again: So why would I NEED 4 Everlane cashmere sweaters??? I suppose it goes back to the whole Kondo concept. I could get a LOT of joy out of one Eileen Fisher cashmere sweater!
Hi Gretchen-
Happy Halloween from NYC!
I say 1 Eileen! I have the recycled light grey, it’s lovely. I wore it with the Everlane striped silk box top – so cozy and black jeans.
