Wow. What a day yesterday! I was so honored that Elizabeth Holmes chose to feature my Minimal Closet journey in her WSJ article about buying quality clothing for fall. Beyond just the recognition, which, I’m not going to lie, is nice, it sort of brings together everything I’ve been working towards the last ten years. And how wonderful to be mentioned alongside two of my favorite online retailers focused on slowing down the pace of fashion, Everlane & Zady.
I started Grechen’s Closet with the intention to share the designers & products I thought were interesting, the online boutiques I loved, and my everyday outfits (back in 2004, hardly anyone was doing it, so it was a novel idea!). Several years in, I started to become more and more interested in sustainable fashion, clothing produced in the US and tried to focus as more on buying less, and only things I loved. Of course, there were ups and downs, purges, and then again buying things I didn’t need/love, but life is a journey, and a whole long series of ups & downs, mine is no different.
No more backtracking allowed now though!! Not after being “outed” in the WSJ for goodness’ sake! But I don’t think I will go back to my “old” ways – I was ready for this change, and when I’m ready for something – TRULY ready – I stick with it for good.
I’m not done by any means. No one can be, I don’t think. I mean…until you’re no longer with us. I’m still getting rid of things, and I’ll always be adding things back in, but I have a different perspective now.
I didn’t set out to make this blog my career or make money from it, I just wanted an outlet for sharing the things and ideas I loved with other people. And I hope that’s all it still is, at the heart of it; a place for me to talk about my passion for clothes & share my relationship with clothes and my closet. I would do it even if no one read it, and if I never made a penny.
So, again, thank you for being here, reading, and joining in the conversation. Here’s to another ten years. I think…*
*wow…can you even begin to imagine how much things will change in the NEXT ten years??
