Thoughts on the Fleece bomber jacket, and hooded fleece blazer
Review of the shirt dress & cashmere
What have you guys bought? What are your thoughts on fit/sizing?
If you have anything so far that hasn’t fit, and that you’re interested in swapping, or selling, leave a comment. I’ll do a separate post next week for you guys to swap sizes, items, etc., if there’s enough interest.
I bought the Yosemite Trench Coat in black and the Cashmere Leggings, and have received both!
It turns out I have a difficult time getting my sizing right in JP. I’m 5’5″, about 130 lbs with a curvy pear-ish shaped figure. Smaller chest, bigger hips/butt/thighs. I’m usually a size small in other brands, but usually buy a 2 in James Perse. If the style is ‘relaxed’, like their *best tshirt ever*, I can wear a 1.
Yosemite Trench: I chatted with a stylist about the trench coat because I know some of their other jackets fit small. On her recommendation, I went with a 2, and I must say I am disappointed in the fit. The odd thing is it seems to fit okay through the chest area, but seems too wide in the hips and a bit too long in the sleeves. I think I could move the button over on the sleeves and have the arm look acceptable. However, the fabric is really quite light, so instead of falling down flat when I tie the belt, it poofs out around my butt. It definitely looks better left open, but that defeats its ability to keep water off my body…which was why I wanted it. The online support was way too brief, and I think I should have sized down. But the chest? Even my small chest might have been squished in a size 1. For all around slim or pear-shaped folks who get the right size, it’s a lovely lightweight rain coat that doesn’t look like a hiking jacket. I’ll definitely be trying to resell this if I can.
Cashmere Leggings: The online recommendation is to size down, and they are not kidding. I was scared about whether my butt would fit into a size 1. The good news is that it does! I was so excited when I put them on that jumped up and down several times. The bad news is, when I did that, I almost lost them. They really are loose, BUT, they are not particularly long. If I had been in a store trying them on, I definitely would have tried the zero, but my hunch is that the cuff would have sat above my ankle. In some ways, they are like old-school long johns. Don’t expect a spandex version of a legging that clings to your skin. On a blind touch test, I might not have known they were cashmere…but I would have thought they were a luscious, high quality merino at worst. STILL, even with a big of bag around the knee and a hand holding them up when I leap into the air, I am insanely happy with them. I spend 80% of my time working from home, and it feels like I finally nailed a context appropriate clothing investment.
Now I really want the cashmere leggings! Thx, Christina! ๐
I got the Yosemite trench in Deep. When I pulled it out (wrinkled!!!) I was shocked at the original price….$350. Even at $140 I kind of feel gypped but I have worn it three times since and I do like it. It just doesn’t look as expensive as it was which bothers me a bit. I live in So Cal so it works for a lightweight topper pretty well. It is very comfortable even with a bulky sweater under. Im a straight up and down slight hourglass 5″7″ 130 and ordered a 3. The shoulders fit perfectly. I could slim it down a bit but agree that belted it poofs. Not good. But overall I give it a 7 out of 10. Not my best JP purchase but we will see if it gets used as much as I anticipated.
I got just one thing – the double v neck dress in black. The sort of thing that’s a staple in my wardrobe. The free-shipping code didn’t work for me, sadly, but by the time I found out, I’d convinced myself I had to have the dress anyway. I resisted a few other things including the gorgeous tulip hem skirt because I just didn’t NEED them …
i have felt sort of ‘meh’ about some JP purchases at first, and then they turn out to be workhorses…and then some don’t…so i feel you! it always seems like something like that would get a lot of use, as a throw-on type thing though, so i’m hoping it does for you!!
YAY! i resisted the cashmere leggings ๐
so glad you love them though! and sorry about the trench. it does seem that lately, sizing has been a bit more wonky with JP. certain things i know i’ll have to try on before i commit, where before, i was pretty consistently a size 2. it’s my hips. but also the new “oversized” shape that some things have. and some don’t…
The dress I mentioned in a previous post (wrap blouson dress in quarry) arrived and fits exactly as expected (a bit big on top but needed to stick with my skirt size for the bottom). Quarry is a really nice shade of grey (better than it looks online in my opinion). It’ll probably look better bare legs than with tights so I’m looking forward to wearing it in the spring.
Holy cow! I received my boatneck tucked dress in black yesterday. It is so wonderful. The fabric is soft and stretchy and somehow so flattering. I am a believer! It has “tucks” at the hip that provide a rouching which effectively hides the pooch and a pretty slight draping at the neck. I am tall, so ordered the 4. The length is still low on the calf. The dress looks like a long column of “awesomeness”, as my 11 year old would say. I was looking for the longer cashmere blend dress with the 3/4 sleeve, but the 4s were sold out. This one has short cap sleeves which may make it more versatile, but will have to layer for our Chicago winter. I do not have a store near me to try on so I erred on the large side and am not disappointed. Thanks so much for the free shipping and all the JP info to enable my purchase:)! I am truly shocked at how they can make what looks like a long cotton tee shirt that flatters so well.
yay! that’s what i love so much about james perse ๐ the most flattering dresses i’ve ever tried…
