A kind & generous reader let me know just now that she got these Rachel Comey hitch boots – in perforated leather! – at Steven Alan this week and saved an additional 15% with code springwelcome. That would make them $254!! Not a bad deal for Rachel Comey boots. In perforated leather no less.

And now for something completely different, but not really. I’ve been toying around with adding a “Marketplace” category here on Grechen’s Closet where readers could submit items for sale. I would be VERY picky about the posts/items I’ll eventually include in the marketplace; they would have to be for designers like Rachel Comey, Repetto, no6, Alexander Wang, etc. Since many of you come here to seek out items by these designers anyway, it seems logical to offer a solution for where to buy them used as well.

I would stay completely out of the buying/selling process, my role is curator and facilitator. I cannot be responsible for authenticating anything, although if I can tell that something is obviously fake, I’ll reject the post. I also wouldn’t charge any fees for doing this, maybe I’ll create a badge for you guys who are bloggers to post on your blogs though. Or correction, I’ll have Linda create a badge for me

I’m going through another one of my closet-purging phases, which is interesting, because I’ve also been adding quite a few things…But I guess that’s why I subsequently need to purge; I hate having so much stuff. I know, not a terrible problem to have, but I really only wear regularly a small portion of my wardrobe. The other things just take up space.

And since I’m swearing off eBay – for good this time – and not all my stuff is appropriate for MOSS here in Austin, I’m going to try out a couple of online alternatives. First, Threadflip, then Poshmark (although I feel like poshmark is kind of limited though, because it’s only an iPhone app).

Yesterday I uploaded my Foley & Corinna mid-city tote bag in canvas & leather trim to Threadflip. It was SO EASY. Almost too easy. I’m a little confused about what happens once it sells, but I think Threadflip takes 15%, which includes shipping/handling, and sends me packaging/shipping supplies. Then I send it out to the buyer and I’m done. They do charge another 5% if you want to cash out, or you can use your money as credit on Threadflip. We’ll see how it goes…no harm in trying, right?

Have you guys tried Threadflip or Poshmark yet? What did you think? Are you interested in trying eBay alternatives?

Shopbop put lots of items on sale today – including this James Perse long side split skirt for $49:

I tried this skirt on a month or so at Saks and really liked it. Not for the original price – but for $49, it’s great It is a bit snug at the hips, which is typical of James Perse, but not so much so that it’s unflattering. I’d size up if you’re hip-y at all, and take your regular size if you’re not.
