Coming from a part of the country that doesn’t really have a Winter (Florida) and currently living in a city that has only mild Winters (Atlanta), I’ve never really gotten used to the idea of wearing a coat. In fact, even when it is really cold, I’d rather layer tons of sweaters/scarves so that I don’t HAVE to wear a coat.
That being said, I’ve recently come to believe that in spite of all these qualifications, I really do need a nice Winter coat. And when and if I decide to buy one, it will be by Soia & Kyo – a Canadian designer duo available at Tobi, and other places online. I love their chic, flattering styles, and fabulous prices (tops out at $374). My favorite is the short red belted coat (I love red lately…) for cold days and the long twill trench coat (at the bottom) for not-so-cold days…

These Marc by Marc Jacobs Animal print Mouse shoes
are just too cute; I would totally splurge on these if I wore flats very often (but maybe in black instead). They’re quite subtle actually, so you don’t look like you’re wearing mice on your feet, but those who notice won’t be able to forget them.

These are the first high-end jeans I’ve purchased in almost two years…I thought it was time for a denim update. About a month ago, I did buy some gap jeans; the Long & Lean and Bootcut styles. I like them, but there’s always something ‘off’ with Gap jeans, so they’re never my go-to jeans of choice. I still wear my Goldsign Desire jeans the most, they are my favorites, and I think they flatter my butt more than any other pair I own. But I knew I needed to update my selection of pants/jeans, so I decided to give these a try.
I am in a size 32. If you are not as hippy as me, you could probably size down a size in these, they do tend to run slightly big. But I like that, you see, because that means they’ll actually fit me! They are technically mid-rise, but because of my hips, they are low-rise on me…not a problem though, because I wear longer tops/sweaters anyway. Also, they are 100% cotton, so they do stretch a bit with wear, but not so much to affect the look/fit. The side seam is a little ‘twisted’ which gives them a unique look, and the leg is ultra-wide, as well as flared. The denim is lightweight, but not ultra-thin, so it will be just as comfortable in Winter as it will in Spring.
Mine are black – I chose these instead of a dark denim because I already have dark denim; I don’t have any black pants. And I just thought they were so chic and flattering in black. Here they are at Active Endeavors (use code ‘better’ and save 25% for a limited time, and then ‘grechen’ for 20% off), and Shopbop.

Anzevino & Florence is not a new designer necessarily, especially if you’re more into ‘street’ fashion, but many of the pieces aren’t very wearable in an everyday work-a-day world. This season, however, I’m seeing more and more interesting, but workable pieces.
80′s Purple has a great selection:
