Review: Peggy Li Necklace

by grechen on August 25, 2006 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I am a huge fan of Peggy Li’s jewelry. She’s always keeping up with the trends, making them her own, and then making them affordable. I have several necklaces from Peggy Li and mostly wear them as layering ieces. This one (the shorter one) is a beautifully textured enameled ball on a short gold chain (The longer necklace is from Rachel Abroms mad coin collection). It has a great vintage look/feel to it and always gets a lot of compliments.

I’ve worn this necklace from Dejarnette New Orleans about a handfull of times since I got it, and every single time I wear it, someone wants to touch it; they don’t believe it’s glass. It gets a lot of attention, to say the least, and deservedly so; you won’t see anything like it anywhere else. I like to wear it with black on top to showcase the clear glass, but really, you can wear it like a string of pearls – with everything.

I have to admit, the first time I wore it, I was constantly touching it myself. It’s hard to believe that you’re wearing glass beads around your neck, but while they look delicate, they’re really not. The glass is fairly thick and there’s no danger of breakage, at least not until you drop it.

The designer, Katherine, tells me she’s going to be working on a matte black glass bead necklace soon, so check the website for that, and browse her shop for lots of other very cool pieces.

Review: Laura Stark Designs

Sometimes an outfit calls for a heavier necklace, and I love this one for just those ocassions. The “Earth & Sea” necklace by Laura Stark is made with very cool lava beads and freshwater pearls, for a beautiful contrast between light and dark. I also like to wear this with a crewneck t-shirt to add a little interest to the neckline.

The earrings in the second picture are the Gold Bar earrings and my favorite thing about them is that they mix gold and silver. Adding interest and edge, the mixture of metals and textures in these earrings make them perfect for almost any outfit, but I think they would be most perfect with a fancy dress or conservative suit. That’s part of what I love about fashion/style – the contrast of high & low and mixing materials, which Laura Stark does so well.

Labradorite Long Necklace in Gold
Multi-Color Spinel & Pearl Ear Threads in Gold by Atomic Rox

It’s not so easy to see from the picture, but the labradorite in this necklace is absolutely gorgeous. It is basically a steel gray stone, but it has flecks of gold in it and according to the light, can sometimes be green or blue. I love the contrast of wearing it with a simple white tank top and jeans, or a denim skirt. At it’s heart, it’s a ‘fancy’ necklace, but is easily adaptable. I also like to wear it slightly askew, as seen here, for an unexpected twist.

The earrings are equally gorgeous, and I love threader earrings for their ‘rocker chic’ look and edgy elegance. I save these for more ‘formal’ ocassions or outfits, like a wrap dress. And when I wear earrings like this, I never wear a necklace – first, I don’t like to be too match-matchy, but also, I think the earrings hold their own and don’t deserve to share the ‘spotlight.’

Review: Qara Argentina Leather Hobo

August 4, 2006

Is it possible to have too many handbags? Maybe, but I obviously haven’t reached that point yet. My newest favorite? The Mia Hobo by Qara Argentina. Let me just expand on why: 1. It’s extremely light. 2. The color is incredibly unique (it’s gray, or ‘Charcoal’). 3. It’s extremely light. 4. The leather is fabulously [...]

Review: Odette NY Jewelry

August 1, 2006

I’m not normally very matchy-matchy with earrings/necklaces, but in this case, I make an exception because of the contrast between the oxidized necklace chain and the sterling earrings. The Martin Earrings are quickly becoming my ‘everyday’ earrings becuase they work with everything and and have enough of a presence to be my only accessory. The [...]
